Free maps you can make (fast)

The nice folks at Faneuil Media have just updated Atlas, the free online map-making tool. Now you can:

  • Create a high-quality online map in a few seconds
  • Embed a map on your Web page in any size or format
  • Allow readers to plot comments and photos on maps (can you believe this? Is this amazing?)
  • Download your data in Keyhole Markup Language
  • Add Wikipedia content to major cities

Now you have NO EXCUSES for having so few maps on your Web site!

Update (Jan. 18): Here is a very cool example of one of these maps with contributions from the community — the Cincinnati Enquirer asks readers to map local bars, restaurants and bowling alleys that are not complying with the state’s new smoking ban.

Mindy, thanks for the kind words! If you or your readers have any feedback, we’d love to hear it.
