Can newspapers use Google Maps?

Rick Burnes concludes that the answer is not exactly clear. I had thought it was okay as long as you do not charge people to look at the stuff using the maps. But as Rick points out, that may not be the whole story.

Update: Rick got a clarification from Google Maps — it’s okay to use them on a news Web site if they are not behind a paid firewall!

Google has now clarified their terms. News sites can run Google Maps as long as they don’t appear behind a paid wall. I posted about this here.
