Via the International Journalists’ Network:

Latin American journalists interested in improving their understanding of Internet technology in reporting are eligible to attend a seminar in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The event is scheduled for July 21 and 22.

The Latin American journalism center CELAP is organizing the seminar. Among the themes are editing stories for the Internet; the differences between Web pages, sites and hosts; the use of discussion spaces and chat rooms; and how to search for funding sources. Participants will also analyze successful models of Internet news sites, such as The Washington Post and USA Today in the United States.

The Colombian lawyer, writer and journalist Fernando Escobar will lead the training. He recently wrote a guidebook for journalists about using the Internet. The guidebook and corresponding CD-ROM will be used in the training together with a guide listing more than 1 million online news sources, journalism job sites, scholarships and dictionaries, among others.

The registration cost of US$375 includes instructive material, meals and a copy of Escobar’s book, US$695 also includes lodging.
